What happened this year? No freezing horizontal rain only hot sun and cloudless skies. What a difference the weather makes, the attendance went from a few hundred to over 3000.
The exhibitors went from 50 plus to 350, and wasn’t there some magnificent vehicles on display both old and new, cars, commercial vehicles, trikes, bikes and scooters.
If classic vehicles were not your bag then there were 35 craft stalls a fun fair, a bouncy castle, bucking bronco, the Heart Radio slide, a Fun Fair and remote control Quad bike time trials.
The Secklow Brass was as entertaining as usual, that was until their amplifier went up in smoke, good job the fire brigade were on hand. The Fire brigade also put on a simulated car rescue.
It was lovely to see so many smiling faces and people enjoying themselves.
Canon John Saunders presented the Festival prizes and maybe had something to do with the Sun shining on us for a change.
The raised on the day towards St. Faiths Church restoration was £8500.00, which made up for the last two years where nothing was made. The other charities that benefitted on the day included
The NSPCC. The Free Church, Alzheimer’s Society and the Air Ambulance Service.
These days would not happen if it were not for the efforts of the dozens of volunteers, who gave up many hours of their Sunday,
From the ladies who made the delicious cakes to the very hard working “cooks” who slaved all day serving bacon butties, teas cakes sandwiches, beef burgers and hot dogs and of cause the stewards who manned the gates, the car park and the field, some of them for over 10 hours. My thanks go to them all.
Finally I would I would like to say to the very dedicated organising committee who started work on the event the previous August, isn’t it great when a plan comes together.
We have already started planning next year’s event so put this date in you diaries, Sunday 30th May 2010.
