Two good weather years on the trot, let’s hope this is a trend. Although the weather was not quite up to the standard of last year it was very much better than we have experienced in the past. The stiff breeze proved a bit of a challenge to some of the stall holders during the afternoon but the sunshine compensated for the inconvenience.
The numbers were slightly down on 2009 but we still had over 3000 people through the gates.
There were over 250 vehicles on display ranging from vintage agricultural tractors to top of the range Ferrari sports cars, plus an increased attendance from the two wheel brigade, from vintage to the massive Honda Goldwings, with both 2 and 4 wheel club stands to enhance and augment vehicle owner participation.
In fact the standard of vehicles on display was probably the best that the Festival has enjoyed to-date with a very wide variety of machines on display from old motorbikes, to tractors, to military vehicles to exotic and race machines.
Most notable machines were:
Winner Class B. Riley Winchester
Class C. Armstrong Syddely
Class D Jensen Interceptor Mk 1
Class E Daimler Ferret Scout Car
Class F Austin 7 van
Class G Massey Ferguson tractor
Class H Fiat 124 Spyder
ClassK Ariel Square 4
ClassL Honda Goldwing
Best 4 wheel vehicle in Show; Daimler Empress //Best 4 wheel Club Stand: Ford RS Club
Best 2 wheel vehicle in Show: Ariel Square 4// Best 2 wheel Club Stand: Honda Goldwings (Tudor Rose)
Best Scooter: Lambretta
Prizes were awarded by Cannon John Saunders who, despite professing complete mechanical ignorance still managed to do his normal excellent job.
The committee would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to all the sponsors, particularly Leighton Buzzard Suzuki and Landrover Experience.
Of course as ever these events could not take place without all the volunteers who gave up a large part of their weekend to make sure that everything ran smoothly and safely. It should be mentioned that the car park was stewarded by the young boys and girls from HMS Invincible, based in Bletchley Park, who also spent Saturday helping to set up the site, what a credit they were to their unit. A big thank you to you all and hopefully, see you next year.
As the years roll by the event gets bigger but the committee gets older so if there is anyone out there who thinks they may have something to offer give me a ring, it’s good fun as well as hard work
